About Kindle

I have used Kindle for one week. The first impression Kindle gives me is small, very small. Then, is smart.

Now, after a week's using, I have a few comments on Kindle.

Positive

  • Kindle is so light and small that you can handle it hours without tire. It's absolute a sharp edge when you compare it with iPad.
  • With QWERTY keyboard, I can enter comments easily. This keyboard add reading interaction. Reading is not alone ever.
  • To buy a book from Amazon, what I need to do is click menu and chosse shop online. Amazon will show me the books 's which I probably want to read. After I click buy it button, the book will be in my Kindle in seconds. That's awesome.
  • Anytime when I find a book on my PC, I only need to email the book to my dedicated Kindle address, then this book will be automatically synchronized to my Kindle in seconds. The Kindle just get away from that annoying USB cable. I love this sweet feature.
  • Kindle can work for quite a long time without charging. That means I don't need carry that USB cable and don't need to worky about battery ever.

Negative

  • The bigest shortage for me, is Kindle doesn't support multi-language file. I am not sure is it's a very hard task to achieve. I find this support on all Apple's products, from iPod, iPhone to MacOS X. And same as Microsoft Windows. I doubt if Amazon has a plan to extend Kindle to overseas. If they have, then this issue need to be solved first.
  • The webkit-based browser is too experimental to be used in real life.
    • it doesn't support muliti windows, or tabs
    • it can't keep same zoom in setting cross pages and sites. I have to set 150% scale for every page I - visit. It's a idiot design.
    • it doens't support WAP page. there are lot's of WAP page on internet. According Kindle's SPEC, I think the WAP support will help Kindle attract more people.
  • MP3 support is definitely a crap. I can only play MP3s from start to end in a fixed sequence. And next time, when I play MP3, it start from start again! That means, I hear totally same songs every time. I have to say, it's only in pre-alpha development. Amazon shouldn't release this feature currently.
  • Yes, Kindle has 3GB internal memory. That means, I can store thousands books in it. However, Kindle just list them in a plain list. I might have over hundreds book list pages if I fill-in this 3GB storage. Why can't Kindle display directory?
  • Kindle has a interal dictionary. What a good news it is! The bad news is, this dictionary only support AZW file. It doesn't work in web browser or PDF. That means, this function is meaningless for me.
  • The last but not least, is Kindle's quality. I have to say I am disappointed on Kindle's keyboard. It's very hard to press. The keyboard makes Kindle looks like a cheap copy-cat product. Amazon can and should do better on this point, while it doesn't.
