Dragon and 'Long'

Published

There is a interesting TV show this noon. The host and two guests discussed the culture differences between China and the Western.

Chinese like dragon, and the west doesn't like it. We think dragon represent power, wisdom and harvest, but they think dragon is evil, bad and horrible. We can find similar differences in the Phoenix. Chinese think phoenix is the symbol of fortune and Harmony, the west think phoenix means brave and rebirth.

One guest of the show explain the difference. Actually, the dragon in the west is not the same thing in China. The "Long" we called is just look like dragon. Actually, they are totally different creatures. "Feng" is not the phoenix, either.

Then, they talked dogs and cats, even fox. The west think dogs are good partner of human, but Chinese think dogs represent low class. It's a serious shame to be reviewed "like a dog" in China.

Actually, we could find Chinese like powerful creature, because they want to have more power than others. The traditional Chinese culture often ignore personal feeling. The culture encourage people bully others.
