How to add a SAV 10.1 server into a SAVCE traditional group
Scenario:
SWPG is a huge electrical power plant. It's AntiVirus solution is based on Symantec SAVCE 9.0. Now the IT professional of SWPG want to upgrading the SAVCE 9.0 to 10.1.
They had a SAV server and hundreds of clients. I thought it's easy and just add a new SAV 10.1 server to exist SAV group. But I'm wrong.
What I'd done:
I start to setup SAVCE 10.1 server on new server, when I need to add it to exist group, I found there is a difference in 10.1 with traditional 9.0, I must provide a username and password.
To access a traditional SAVCE group, you just need to provide a password than a pair of username & password. To access a SAVCE 10.1 group, I need to provide username and password. So I couldn't add a SAVCE 10.1 server to a tradional SAVCE group.
Then I thought maybe I could upgrade SAVCE 9.0 sever to 10.1 first, then add new 10.1 server to the group, but I failed.
The SAVCE 9.0 server couldn't upgrade to 10.1. When I tried to upgrade it, it work hard for a long time without any respond. Then after about 5~10 minutes, it gave me a message that maybe it couldn't finished his work, ask me if it should keep work. I chose don't waiting, of course. Then, it failed.
At last, I had to create a new group in 10.1 format.
What we could get:
- Don't try to add a new version of SAVCE server to a traditional SAVCE group.
- If you want to anyway, upgrade old version to 10.1 first.
- Symantec set user system in new access control structure of SAVCE.
