# Lightening e-Ink

Amazon released Kindle Paperwhite last week. I am very interested in this new device as it is equipped with build-in light.

This light is vector light, which has direction.

From the picture, we can see the light is toward to display layer, not readers. So the light we see is the reflected light, not source light.

For a general LED/LCD screen, the light is behind the display layer. So when a reader look at the display on the screen, what he really see is the light generated from LCD/LED, than being transparent by display layer. In other word, the reader is looking at a light directly, which is very harmful for eyes.

Kindle Paperwhite is obviously much more healthier than LCD/LED screen. And it is also better than competitor - NOOK GlowLight. On the NOOK, we can see LED lights are in the frames.

Compare the three lighting methods on the market, I think Amazon Kindle is no doubt the best.
