New Storage Features in Windows 2012
There are a few new storage features in Windows 2012.
The first one is virtual disk. In previous Windows server, there is only virtual volume (partition, mount point...). Now in Windows 2012, we can group several physical disks into a virtual disks in RAID 0/1/5. Then create a few virtual volume on this virtual disk. The volume size can be larger than virtual disk, because we can add new physical disks into this virtual disk in the future. This is really cool. However, don't expect high performance on this feature. This feature is based on OS, on software. I think hardware RAID card still has edges in this field.
Another new feature is called Deduplication. It's a OS-layer feature to find same files in a disk, then automatically create a hard symbol links for spare ones, which can save some hard disk space. That's not a big advantage, but still a interesting feature. :-)
