QQ and Weixin

QQ absolutely is the most popular mobile client in China. However, Tencent still releases Weixin – a Whatsapp copy-cat. It confuses many people. QQ and Weixin do almost same thing - send/receive chat messages, photos and audio/video clips. Is there any difference between them? Is there any necessity to develop a new mobile message system?

To be frankly to say, I don’t think there is this necessity. Yes, the Weixin has a bunch of positives. But, those positives also prove there are bunch of negatives in mobile QQ. The popularity of Weixin prove one thing, even be No.1 in mobile application market, there still is huge up-room for mobile QQ. Mobile QQ logs-out and won’t try to log-in again while network failure.

Tencent still develops mobile QQ with the same way using on desktop counterpart. They integrate too many functions into mobile QQ, while end-users just like a light, efficient message app.

In many scenarios, end-users don’t care if it’s a real-instant message. They like a easy-use, MMS-like, but cheaper message service.

In my prediction, mobile QQ will be a platform in mobile. After install it, end-users choose what QQ components will be installed. Like the QQ on desktop.

Another prediction is Tencent will finally permit Multi Sign-In in all mobile QQ clients. They are doing this on WP7 and iOS.
